Report by Declan Teefy:

Morey Movement Hurling League Div 4 Semi Final
Sunday the 22nd of June

Clooney-Quin 0-14
Broadford 1-14
Venue: Clooney

This was an extremely physical contest from the outset on this Sunday evening. The weather conditions were to be respected as it was a strong, blustery wind blowing down towards the newly renovated Clooney-Quin clubhouse.

Broadford trailed early on 0-1 to 0-3 as Clooney’s number 11 with the wind at his back took the early initiative with two well taken scores. This was to be the last time that Clooney would lead as Broadford upped the physicality against the breeze and worked like trojans around the field.

With super scores from,” Sparky” Whelan 0-3 and Paul Moloney 0-2, we led at half time 0-9 to 0-7.

With the aid of the elements in the second half Broadford only upped the workrate even more and were rewarded with a scrappy goal from John Moran who pulled on a ball outside the square and evaded the goalkeeper to push Broadford’s lead out to 6.

With Clooney pushing vehemently to break the Broadford rearguard, our defence stood strong.

On the evening, we had lots of good performers from Dan Green, Sam Cooper , James Gunning and James Tuite. Up front “Sparky” Whelan was to the fore with a high energy workrate from all his teammates.

This victory gives us the opportunity of competing in a league final against Ballyea, a team who has defeated us earlier in the campaign.

The very same weekend will be special as Broadford junior B’s will compete in their own league final against Eire Og. Makes for an exciting and nerve wracking weekend. B

Broadford:
Roy Duffy
Dan Greene , Cathal O’Sullivan, Tj Dillion
James Gunning , Sean Phelan , Sam Cooper
Jack O’Brien, James Tuite (0-1)
Eoin O’Brien (0-6 frees), Alan O’Brien, Paul Moloney (0-2)
James Dillion, Sparky Whelan (0-4) Jack Dillion

Subs: Jack Dillion (injury) for John Moran (1-1), Sam Cooper (exhaustion) for Noah Corbett, Jack Ward Murphy for James Dillion.

Final and Semi Final Awaits for Broadford’s Intermediate and Junior Teams

20/6/2025

Report by Declan Teefy:

Junior League Div 4
Sunday 8th June
Broadford 2-16
Clarecastle 2-14
Venue: Glenomra Park, Broadford

This was a well contested tie between two evenly matched sides on Sunday morning last.
Clarecastle took the initiative early on and scored the first two points with well taken scores from Niall Galvin and Johnny Casey. It wasn’t till Jack Dillion got our opening score with a well taken point that we began to settle down.

We seemed to take over with Conor O’Donnell shooting at will but only managing to get 0-2 great scores when much more were on offer.

Towards the end of the half Diarmuid Whelan pounced on a defensive handling error by
Clarecastle to rattle the net and give his customary finger wagging salute.

Into the second half, there were physical battles all over the field especially between Mark Moloney and Pa Kelly at 11 and 6 respectively. Mark definitely came out the better when scoring a wonderful individual goal midway through the second half to add to his personal tally of 1-3 over the hour.

The game ended and flowed toward the end with Broadford keeping the “magpies” at bay.

Best of the day for Broadford were Mark Moloney who was at his boisterous best, Sam
Cooper excelling with his fielding and Eoin O’Brien’s unerring accuracy from frees
particularly his last free where he was closer to the national school than the goals.

This victory gives us the opportunity of competing in a league semi final against
Clooney-Quin on Saturday week, a team who has defeated us earlier in the campaign.

Broadford:
Peter O’Farrell

Dan Greene , Cathal O’Sullivan, Tj Dillion

Mark Gunning , Sean Phelan , Sam Cooper

Jack O’Brien, Conor O’Donnell (0-2)

Eoin O’Brien (0-8: 7 frees), Mark Moloney (1-3) Paul Moloney

Aodhan O’Driscoll (0-1) Sparky Whelan (1-1) Jack Dillion (0-1)  Subs: Mark Gunning (injured) off for Michael Hogan

Junior League Div 8
Tuesday 10th June
Clooney-Quin 0-14
Broadford 1-14
Venue: Clooney

Broadford maintained their 100% winning ways throughout this junior league campaign with a 3 point win over the Clooney-Quin on Tuesday evening last. Having booked our league final place with a game to go it was an opportunity (minus the leaving cert contingent and the pensioners) for lads to stake a claim.

We took a strong start and imposed our game on the opposition, who still had the
opportunity of qualifying for the league semi-final. We led after the first quarter by 0-7 to 0-2, with Seanie Consy getting 0-2 and using his athleticism to great effect. He unfortunately hurt his ankle and had to be replaced early on for Eoin O’Brien.
We finished the half strong with Niall Moloney using his aerial prowess to good effect for a well engineered goal.

However, after the interval Clooney took over with Daire Hannan and Sean Ward to the fore. The game became a one score game for the remaining ¼ until Johnny Mac, Paul O’Connell and David Hickey got late scores to pull us through.

Best on the evening were James Mason, Seanie Considine, Brian Taylor and Johnny
Macnamra.

League final awaits in the coming weeks against either Éire Og or Clarecastle.
