This year's final of the Tony Marsh Tournament takes place in Broadford on Saturday 13th August at 5.30pm.
Come along to support your team and and to help remember the much respected and missed Tony Marsh. Broadford met Sixmilebridge in the opening match of the Junior C Championship last Sunday. Despite getting off to a good start, taking the first two points of the match, the Broadford lead was short-lived as the ‘Bridge proved their dominance with a stream of points and two goals with Broadford able to add just another seven points for their spirited efforts. The final score of 0-09 to 2-20 did not reflect the hard work put in by the Broadford team. David Hickey, Brian Cosgrove and Willie Wixted kept the ball moving in Broaford’s favour with some nifty out manoeuvring of the ‘Bridge’s midfield and half-back lines on numerous occasions. The team also created two good goal scoring opportunities from play but could not find the back of the net for a finish. A late free in the second-half from the 20-metre and taken by Brian Cosgrove was the final proof, if any were needed, that luck was not on Broadford’s side as the ball hit the cross-bar of Bridge’s heavily defended goal and was knocked back in to play denying Broadford the points they were looking for. Bad luck but a great effort and well done to Sixmilebridge. Junior C Championship action this Sunday. Broadford take on Sixmilebridge in Kilkishen with throw-in at 1:00pm. On Wednesday evening, 10th August, Broadford play Crusheen in round 3 of the Junior A Championship. The match takes place in Sixmilebridge with throw-in at 7:00pm. Good luck! Broadford/SOB played Sixmilebridge on Friday evening in the Minor A Championship. They got the start that they didn't want down 8 point in the first period of the game. The lads didn't give up however and shored up the defence with superb defensive displays in particular by Cian Mulqueen. The scoreline was kept ticking over by a goal and 2 points from Cian Cremins and scores from Eoin Powell, David O' Shea and Paddy Donnellan before half time. The half-time score was 1-6 to 2-11. The Bridge continue to score vital points in the second-half but with solid work from players like Eoin Power, Jack Dillon and Stephen Howard the scoreline didn't get further away. The forwards yet again proved that goals are on the cards when the ball is put in to them. Goals chances came hard and fast in the second half and 2 were well taken by Sean Considine and Diarmuid Whelan. It wasn't enough on the day but the fight back after the bad early start showed the immense character of this young team. Final scoreline was Broadford/SOB 3-9 Sixmilebridge 2-17. Next game against St. Joseph's/Doora Barefield on Friday at 19:00 in Gurteen. Thanks (as always) to Martin Cooper for the snaps. |
