Clooney-Quin versus Ath Leathan in Shannon at 1.30pm this Saturday:
Referee: Jim Hickey
It’s felt like an age since Clare exited the championship and even longer since the county club draw was done. The previous weeks and months have been filled with cross border challenge games, bonding sessions, game plans, video analysis, stats, training and injuries. It has brought us to this juncture in late July when the Canon Hamilton kicks off in earnest.
This coming Saturday afternoon in Shannon, Broadford will go into battle against Clooney-Quin in what we hope will be a wonderful opportunity to kickstart our campaign.
Clooney-Quin like ourselves finished outside the qualifications purposes of the Clare cup and both teams probably had to mitigate against players on seniors and under 20 inter countypanels.
A vast plethora of players with inter-county experience will be on show including Peter Duggan, Ryan Taylor, Paddy Donnellan, Jack O’Neill, John Conneely, Evan Maxted, Niall O’Farrell, Matthew Corbett, Mikey Vaughan and Eoghan Gunning. The loss of Clare senior panellist from 2021 -2023 in Stiofain McMahon to travelling denies Broadford a huge goal threat so that is something we will have to rectify Saturday afternoon.
As a neutral, people would assume that Clooney with some country-wide known players would have too much for Broadford to handle. However, if Broadford in the tight confines of Shannan brings a mix of intensity and high level of hurling ability that we are capable of, we will be very much in this contest towards the final ¼.
Huge aggression and energy from all those who will don the Broadford jersey Saturday will ensure they will represent the club with pride and honour as they have done all their lives.
Below is a link to a previous encounter between Saturday's opponents from 15 years ago where players like Craig Chaplin, Pauric Taylor and Cathal Chaplin will still fill important roles for our club.

Broadford versus O’Callaghan’s Mills in Clonlara at 1pm
Referee: John Healy
The intermediates begin their campaign against near neighbours O’Callaghan Mills. Broadford will also pit themselves against Scariff, Ogonneloe and Inagh-Kilnamona.
Our opponents achieved intermediate status after reaching the junior A semi final where all four teams were promoted.
The Mills will bring players with plenty of experience with John Cooney, Cathal Lenihan, Sean Murphy, Eoin McInerney, Niall McNamara with John O'Brien as captain. In actual fact both teams will be captained by O’Briens with Jack leading the line for Broadford.
Broadford’s last outing was a convincing defeat in the division league final to Ballyea.
However we have defeated Sunday’s opponent in the league back in April so that will give our buys some confidence heading into Sunday. Being the nature of a club's second team both teams will run the risk of losing players to their flagship team.
Broadford will be looking to Paul and Mark Moloney to provide experience, guile and physicality along with James Gunning, Diamruid Whelan and Sean Phelan who hopefully will be fully fit to man the central position of centre back for Broadford.
