Broadford made a good start with the first five minutes of play focussed on attacking the Clarecastle goal and this resulted in a point scored by Alexandra Troy. Clarecastle however soon turned the tide and put the focus on the Broadford goal end. Some great defensive play from the Broadford backs made sure that Clarecastle were deprived of an early goal. Clarecastle scored their first point from a free but a second free soon afterwards was saved by a fantastic Broadford catch in front of the goal. The rest of the first half saw the two teams more or less evenly matched with play alternating quickly between both ends a number of times. Clarecastle scored two goals; one from a free sent straight to the back of the net. Broadford’s scored their goal after a side line cut taken by Susan O’Shea resulted in intense play around the Clarecastle square where Alexandra Troy took the opportunity to bury the ball. However, an excellent high save from by the Clarecastle goalie leading to a square ball resulted in a second goal for Broadford being disallowed. Halftime scores: 1-02 to 2-01.
Broadford put up a brave defence in the second half but Clarecastle had the edge over Broadford in their ability to gain possession of the ball with almost every puck out. This, along with some really accurate and long passing, stood Clarecastle in good stead and they were able to extend their lead over the duration of the rest of the match. Final score 1-02 to 5-01.
The Clarecastle team were gracious in victory, taking the time to thank Broadford and extended an invitation for a challenge match later in the year
