Morey movement division 4 league final
Ballyea 2-18
Broadford 1-11
On the afternoon of Sunday the 6th of July, Broadford and Ballyea battled it out in this division 4 league encounter.
Both teams tore into this with great exuberance, Ballyea with the aid of the elements shooting down into the dressing room end seemed a bit slow to settle.
Broadford seized early initiative and led by 4-2 after the first quarter with scores from play from Jack Dillion, Aodhan O’Driscoll and Diamruid Whelan. This was to be the last time we led in this final unfortunately as we lost the rest of the half 8 points to 4. I felt the game swung with the remaining 5 mins of the openinghalf. With 29 mins gone James Tuite takes an excellent reverse pass and is through on goal but his shot bounced off the keeper and goes over the bar. In injury time with the score at 9-6 to Ballyea, they got the remaining three scores of the half to lead 12-6 at half time.
The introduction of Mikey Vaughan in second half gave us some impetus in attack with him knocking over two points in quick succession but when Ballyea Mark Crowe capitalised on a mix up on the Broadford square it put paid to our chances of eating into the deficit. Ballyea’s Eoin Kennedy and Brian Longe seemed very impressive and especially along with Cathal Doohan, those 3 players lined out for Ballyea on Friday evening in their victorious division 2 league final against Eire Og.
Eoin O’Brien buried a free late on to give the score a better complexion. Best for Broadford were Paul “Slax” Moloney with his aerial ability and the fullback line of Tj Dillon and Cathal O’Sullivan who it has to be said were under serious pressure from the first quarter onwards. Also impressive on the evening was Ballyea’s midfielder Dillion Killoughery who has strong family connections to Broadford.
The Championship begins in one week against O’Callaghans Mills in Clonlara for this group.

Hurling division 8 league final

Broadford entered into the second of their league finals on Monday the 7th of July with great optimism after topping the league and securing promotion to division 7 for 2026. However there was still silverware on show and we were determined to succeed. With 35 players togged we settled into the play with Padraig Hickey opening the scoring against the breeze with a long range effort.
We struggled to gain a foothold early on with James Dillion frees keeping us in touch. In fact it was a well taken goal from Johnny Macnamra which was a real tonic before half time. With the elements to come we were down 1-6 to 13 points, Eire Og’s David Loftus swinging over some lovely scores in the opening half to keep us at arms length.
Just into the second half , we were reduced to 14 men when Gavin Byrnes received a second yellow which coincided with the elements tapering off. However the boys knuckled down and took the fight to Eire Og, with the introduction of Eoin O’Brien and Aodhan O’Driscoll into the fray, they contributed 0-5 from play to propel us back into the lead.
However, a top finish from David O’Sullivan in the final minutes took the game away from us. A disappointing end but super performances from Alan O’Brien, Paul Macnamara and James Mason were the highlights on an evening where Clare senior hurler David Reidy’s brother Colin shone bright for Eire Og.
Championship begins against Parteen-Meelick in 2 weeks time where we lost to them in the opening fixture last year.

Junior C challenge

With Broadford submitting a 4th adult team for the 2025 junior C championship, we had our first outing in preparation for the championship on Friday evening last in Tubber. Under the management team of Kieran Considine, Pat Doyle and Kevin Moloney, we are in the very capable hands of men with strong links to Broadford over a long period of time.
17 players braved the 27 degree heat and the long trip up to north Clare for our opening match of the year. Some lads had chosen the “Wolfe Tones” and “Willie Clancy” as a more appealing prospect in this swarming heat.
Tubber 3rd team started stronger and had an early goal courtesy of indecisiveness from Padraig Hickey in the Broadford goal, we responded with points from Declan Teefy, a well taken free from Darragh Skehan and David Hickey.
From then on Broadford got sharper and led 7 points to 1-2 at half time.
With a well earned water break, we returned to completely take over with Willie Hayes rattling a goal after a high delivery into the square. Superb points from Marcus Corrigan, an outrageous score from Jack Kelleher and Shane Kiniry especially , followed by more from Declan Teefy, Alan “Jock” Mcmahon, David and Padraig Hickey led us to run out convincing winners.
Excellent performances from everyone with Jp Whelan, Ronan Doyle and Shane Kiniry doing really well in defence.
Championship for this group begins on 10th of August in the first of 4 championship games against Sixmilebridge, Wolfe Tones, Kilkee-Bealaha and Killeanna.

Broadford flagship team are deep in preparations for the first round of the Canan Hamilton against Clooney-Quin next Saturday in Shannan. Hope to see a huge crowd in attendance to give the boys as much encouragement as we can.
