Broadford overcame Cratloe with their fourth win in the Clare Cup Intermediate League on Friday evening, 29th April. Down by one point 0-01 to 0-02 in the first five minutes, Broadford’s Diarmuid O’Brien scored the only goal of the match that was to prove something of the defining moment of the game. The goal, which was scored from play some 20-meters out, gave Broadford a narrow lead that Cratloe only managed to briefly curtail once and, at best, managed to hold level with on a number of occasions in the first and second halves. At 21 minutes in to the second half and a score line of 1-09 to 0-12 the match still could have gone either way but thanks to points from Craig Chaplin, Diarmuid Moloney, and Darren Chaplin, with just one in return from Cratloe, Broadford stole the final result 1-14 to 0-13.
Of note was Stephen Gunning’s impressive trail blaze of a solo run ducking n diving through the midfield and fending off every attempt to block his path and Padraig Taylor’s valiant recovery from the most unfortunate and nauseating connection to his opponent’s hurley.
