Match reports from Declan Teefy

Clare Cup - Round 3
Broadford 0-15
Sixmilebridge 0-15

Broadford and last year’s county finalists Sixmilebridge played out a low scoring draw on Friday evening that drew parallels with our previous Clare cup match.

Broadford lost Shane Taylor early on and Craig Chaplin followed so after to hamstring and  groin injuries respectively.

The “bridge” men had the better of the first half exchanges with Luke O’Holloran, Brian  Corry and David Kennedy getting the bulk of the scores which meant they led by eight  points at the interval with the score being 14-6. Broadford hurled in spurts and failed to gain any traction in this opening half.

Broadford in the second half with the elements seemed to be heading for a loss until we  garnered some much needed character and resilience and weren’t going to let this game peter out.

A 2 point haul from Mark Gunning ate into the deficit and a further 0-3 point haul from Donie Whelan in quick succession really propelled us back into the game. In fact, Donie’s last  point was excellently scored which stemmed from a superb hook by Aodhan O’Driscoll  when the “Bridge” tried to clear their lines.

A late free from an acute angle by Diarmuid Moloney gave us a share of the spoils.

Good second half performances from Conor O’Donnell and Mickey Vaughan propelled us back into the game.

A low scoring tie at O’Garney park ending on level terms.

Broadford: Cian O’Brien; Darragh Whelan, Davy Boland , Damian Keniry; Padraic Taylor  (0-1), Darren Chaplin (0-1), Cian Mulqueen; Cathal Chaplin, Michael Vaughan (0-1), Cian  Cremins (0-1), Diarmuid Moloney (0-6 :4 frees) , Craig Chaplin , Aodhan O’Driscoll , Shane Taylor, Donie Whelan (0-3);

Subs; Conor O’Donnell for Shane Taylor(inj); Mark Gunning (0-2) for Craig Chaplin(inj)
