Having won their first game of the 'A' Championship against Bodyke/O'Callaghans Mills the game against Ballyea was going to be a stern test for this team Broadford/Smith O'Briens team.
Broadford/SOB started the game strongly with James Mason supplying the midfield and half-forward line with excellent ball. Paddy Donnellan and Conor Phelan really put it up to the Ballyea midfield from the start and got excellent ball into Jack Ward Murphy and Ruan Quinn. With the full-forward line putting away their chances and David Boland and Cian Mulqueen converting the frees Broadford/Sob were dominating play in the early stages. Cian contributing a massive long range free and another that found its way to the back of the Ballyea net (the debate continues to who has claimed the goal). Ballyea finished strong leading to half time and there was just 3 points between the teams at the break.
Broadford/SOB really drove on again at the start of the 2nd half with excellent performances by Darragh Moloney in the forwards and the backs standing strong. Tony Seymour and James Vaughan among 2 of the players and put in a massive shift nullifying the Ballyea defence. At the other end the Ballyea forwards were finding it hard to contain Jack Ward Murphy and when he got the ball wide on the left of the square there was only 1 thing on his mind. The green flag was raised after a stormer of a shot. Although the Ballyea team threw the kitchen sink at Broadford as the game continued, Broadford seemed to have the game under control.
Broadford/SOB won on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-13.
Next game is at 1:00pm in Killaloe against Corrofin. All Support is much appreciated.
