A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who supported the recent fundraiser held by Broadford Hurling Club in aid of the Jack Lynch Medical Fund. A total of €1,200 was contributed. The club is very grateful to everyone who helped out and donated on the evening. Thank you again! Broadford/Smith O' Briens suffered their first loss on Sunday morning on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-19. This game involved two evenly matched teams and it wasn't until the last 10 minutes that Crusheen/Tubber were able to put over the extra scores to give them breathing space. Broadford/Sob fought tirelessly in the first half against a physical Crusheen side. The two James' (Vaughan and Hannon) putting serious pressure on their counterparts allowing Broadford/Sob to move forward. The excellent free taking of Niall O' Brien and J.C. McMahon kept the sides scoreline ticking over. Some surging runs by Shane Quinn Tuite and Niall Moloney also provided good scores for Broadford.
Broadford/Sob forwards got more chances in the second half but it was goaline clearances from the Crusheen/Tubber goalie that kept them on top. Once they had weathered the storm Crusheen picked off some points late on to finish strongly. Broadford/Smith O' Briens defeated Meelick on Wednesday evening on a scoreline of 4-8 to 6-14.
Broadford/Smith O'Briens follow the win over Newmarket (0-6 to 1-14) with a comprehensive win over Sixmilebridge on Saturday afternoon.
The game was still in the melting pot at half time with just a goal between the teams (1-7 to 0-7). Goal scored by Colin Balfe. J.C. McMahon was busy in goals in the first half but made some excellent saves. Scores from Seán Phelan and Diarmuid O' Brien and Mikey O Shea kept the scoreboard ticking over. In the second half Broadford/SOB were well on top but failed to convert a lot of scoring chances. The Sixmilebridge forwards were well marshalled by Seán Phelan and Michael Hogan and when they started to use Diarmuid Whelan and O'Shea the game changed. A number of long range scores by Mikey O' Shea put Broadford/SOB out of reach. Jack Dillon and David O' Shea caused problems up front and when Diarmuid Whelan scored a well taken point The Bridge heads dropped. Final scoreline read 1-16 to 0-10. On Sunday the Broadford Juniors won their league match against Whitegate with a score of 2-21 to 1-06. Then on Tuesday the adults won their East Clare Championship match against Killaloe, 2-13 to 0-13. Well done all. Broadford/Smith O'Briens V Newmarket
At half time the game was in the melting pot. Neither team had been dominant but one supporter made an interesting observation "A good goalie is vital to a team". Paddy Donnelan made some crucial saves to keep Broadford/SOB well in the game at half time. Broadford/SOB started the stronger of the two teams the midfield of Cian Cremins and Niall Moloney battled hard to supply good ball to the forwards. Some excellent scores from play and frees by J.C. McMahon, Eoin Power and Jamie Butler. The backs battled hard in the first half with solid performances by the likes of Niall O' Brien and Darren McNamara. With the amount of chances the team had, it was hard to believe a scoreline of 1-5 for the first half. It was 1-5 to 2-6 at half time. The Broadford/SOB team came out all guns blazing in the second half. Within 10 mins of the restart Broadford were level with scores from Niall O' Brien, J.C. McMahon and a well struck goal by Shane Quin Tuite. The next period of the game saw Broadford/SOB showing their forward power. Eoin Power was first to strike with a goal and then it was J.C. McMahon's turn aided by a superb aerial catch from Jack Ward Murphy. Newmarket had no answer as James Vaughan, Eanna McMahon and the other backs stood firm not allowing Newmarket get a vital goal to inspire them. Newmarket were able to pick off some points but points reined in also from Broadford. Scorers included Jamie Butler, a brace from Cian Cremins and three more from Eoin Power. Morgan Fitzgerald was unlucky not to score late on with a well struck shot. Two wins from two. Well done to players and coaches. Broadford play Sixmilebridge in their Club Cup match on Wednesday 8th July. The match takes place in SMB at 7:30pm.
On Sunday 12th, it’s the start of the Junior B Championship for Broadford when they play Whitegate. Scariff is the venue with throw-in at 7pm. Good luck! Broadford/Smith O' Briens were unlucky not to pull a result last night against Scariff. Losing on a scoreline of 3-10 to 3-11.
