Broadford (SOB assist) produced another scintillating display last night in Corofin to bring this incredible bunch of players to another 'A' County final. Broadford were expecting a tough encounter against a Corofin team that finished top of the table after the round stages. The game started with a bang for Broadford when Cian Mulqueen gave the sizeable Broadford and Smith O' Briens supporters something to shout about. A goal up for Broadford inside a minute. The team continued strongly in the first half with the aid of a decent wind. Corofin stayed in the game picking off points in the first half. They did however find it hard to break down Paddy Donnelan in an unfamiliar position but Solid under every high ball. There were excellent performances around the middle of the field in particular by Mike Gough. The Corofin backs were always under pressure by the Broadford forwards with James Mason (scoring a brace in the game) and Jack Ward Murphy causing them major headaches. Broadford finished the First half 4 points up but would be against the wind in the next period. The second half saw man of the match performances all over the field. Both Gearóid Vaughan and his brother James put their bodies on the line on many an occasion. Conor Phelan stepped up another gear in the second half and he along with Cian Mulqueen provided great ball for the forwards. Corofin pulled back the lead with 10 minutes to go but Broadford stepped it up a gear again. They kept out with strong defending from Evan Connolly. Dean Ryan Cashman played a stormer in the second half and with TJ Dillon also scoring another goal for Broadford it was said that the old phrase 'goals win games' must have been in the Broadford players heads. The game finished 1-15 to 5-09. Broadford march on to the 14A County final against Clarecastle. Congrats to all the Coaches, Mentors and all involved, in particular the support by the parents.
