11/6/2018

Thank you from Broadford Hurling Club to everyone for their support on Saturday for making the Ger Moroney Memorial Tournament such a fitting tribute, thanks especially to the extended Moroney family. Thank you to Father Bane for starting off the event with Mass in Kilbane.

The day was made extra special thanks to the participation of Anthony Daly as well as Clarecastle and Tulla Hurling Clubs.

Much gratitude also to everyone that helped provide refreshments and the wonderful array of cakes and sandwiches.

Last but by no means least, thank you to all the club members, parishioners and wider community for coming along to share in the day to remember Ger Moroney.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Broadford hurler Gerard Moroney at the age of fifteen, Broadford hurling club will hold a memorial tournament next Saturday the 9th of June.

There will be an U14 match at 3 o'clock followed by a senior game against Clarecastle at 5 o'clock.

Ger was an outstanding hurler with a massive hurling potential when he was tragically taken. There will be tea and refreshments on the day and the club would urge all club supporters to attend and help mark this occasion.

Broadford U14 Camogie Final -  A Terrific Comeback

3/6/2018

The Broadford U14’s put up a tremendous fight against Éir Óg in the U14C final on Wednesday 30th May in Shannon. Broadford gave away three frees in the first half but Éir Óg also gave away two to Broadford, both taken and scored by Cathy O’Farrell.  Thanks to a point from Beatrice Vaughan both sides were level after 20-minutes. However, the first of three soft goals for Éir Óg at the end of the 25th minute gave the Ennis team the edge as the half time whistle blew.

Both teams fought hard throughout the second half but despite Broadford’s massive efforts in the back lines, Éir Óg had scored a further two goals after 15 minutes with Broadford adding just one free to their tally. Coming up to 20 minutes down in the second half and the scores set at 3-03 to 0-4, the match looked in the bag for Éir Óg.  Broadford players though are made of stronger stuff and were not ready to throw in the towel. Five minutes of regular time was still time enough for the girls in green & yellow to inflict some damage.  With nothing to lose and everything to play for, a shot at goal from a free taken on the 45-meter line by Cathy O’Farrell found its way the back of the net to the joy of the Broadford players and supporters who were out in force. Now 23 minutes down and Broadford narrowly missed a goal from play sending the side lines in to a frenzy but another free for Broadford less than a minute later put just four points between the teams 3-03 to 1-5.  Broadford were firing on all cylinders now and were in grasp of instigating the biggest upset in Camogie this season and with one more goal from a free in the first minute of extra time came so close to doing so.

The scores were 3-03 to 2-05 and Broadford could have done it but for two frees awarded to Éir Óg in the last minutes of play. Although these did not create points for Éir Óg, they denied Broadford the extra minutes of play that would surely have seen them over the line.

A massive effort from the entire Broadford team. To have reached the final was a major achievement and to have come back from behind to almost clinch the match was a sight to behold.  A really great game against a very strong Éir Óg side.
