This coming Sunday the Intermediate League plays  out again for Broadford, this time with an away match against Newmarket-on-Fergus.  Throw-in at 12-Noon.

Camogie Div 3 League Final - Go Broadford!

23/6/2017

PictureBlast from the Past: Broadford v Éire Óg U18's back in 2016. A win for Broadford on that occasion.
Broadford Camogie takes centre stage on Saturday evening in Clooney when our ladies face Éire Óg in the Division 3 League Final.

After a great year last year in Junior winning league and championship, this group of players have reached the league final in a grade higher. That's a mighty achievement.

Although Éire Óg will be favourites, you can never write off the fighting spirit of this Broadford team and on Saturday evening it will come down to whichever team wants it the most.

Your support would be greatly appreciated so please come along, if you can, to help cheer your team on.

The very best of luck to all the players, trainers and support team.

Camogie League Semi-Final Match Report

7/6/2017

Thanks to Carmel Dillon for the following match report for the Division 3 League play-off, in Tulla, on the 31st May.

Broadford Camogie  secured a place in the league final with a dramatic win over Tulla. Tulla had not beaten Broadford in the round stages and with both teams on the same points this was a play off with  everything  at stake!

Tulla started very well and with the aid of strong wind Tulla led at half time Tulla 0-8 to 1-02 with Aoife Vaughan scoring the goal and Aoife Dillon 2 points.

The match ebbed and flowed for first 15 minutes of second half with Broadford managing to go ahead by a point that was short lived as Tulla scored a goal and converted two frees.

With time running out, Aoife Vaughan went on one of her many sole runs and scored her second goal.  Aoife's second half performance  was the turning point of this game. Annalee Marsh  struck the equaliser with two minutes on the clock and Aoife Dillon secured the win for Broadford.

With an unbelievable second half performance Broadford had to dig deep and the charter of this team came to the fore.  A team effort snatched this one with Sam O'Connor and Karen Ryan excelling in the backs and the mid field pairing Aoife Vaughan and Aoife O'Brien winning that battle.  Up front Aoife Dillon converting every chance she got.

Aoife Vaughan scoring 2-3 Aoife Dillon 7 points  Annalee Marsh 1 point.

Well done girls!

Busy Weekend With Wins Against Tubber & Ennistymon

1/6/2017

Picture
Broadford’s third team played Ogonnelloe’s second team in the Junior B League on Friday evening.  A win for Broadford was not to be with Ogonnelloe playing well and ending the match 3-11 to 0.08.

The Intermediate League match on Saturday evening in Broadford surely gave us one of the best and most entertaining matches so far this season. If you missed this match to watch a certain game of rugby then you missed out! Broadford led the match for most of the first half, with Ennistymon only taking the lead briefly by a point in the ninth minute. In the last minute of first-half regular play and the score standing at Broadford 0-08 to Ennistymon 0-06, Nial O’Brien scored a cracker of a point sending the ball straight down the middle of the field from behind Broadford’s own 65-line, hitting the bar to rebound between the posts. Half-time score Broadford 0-09 to Ennistymon 0-06.

Picture
The first 15 minutes of the second-half followed a similar pattern with Broadford taking three points and Ennistymon another four putting them two behind (0-12 to 0-010).  Then a free awarded to Ennistymon some 20 or so meters out from the Broadford goal was directed unexpectedly across the box to another player who sent the ball to the back of the net before everyone on, and off the field, had time to take stock and Ennistymon were suddenly ahead by a point. Broadford though racked up another five straight points with two from Ennistymon in response. Ahead by just two points and Ennistymon threatening extra points with every play of the ball, Eoghan Mason clinched the win for Broadford with a goal in the second and final minute of extra time after the goalie was drawn out to edge of the box and Eoghan sent the ball across the ground and in to the goal. Final score Broadford 1-17 to Ennistymon 1-12

Picture
On Sunday it was off to Tubber for the next Clare Cup Division 1B match. On this occasion it was Broadford that left with the comfortable win. Approaching half-time however, even though Broadford seemed to be ahead in terms of possession, there were only two points between the two sides. A goal from Shane Taylor gave Broadford the needed boost in the 28th minute after a free from in front of the stand was sent down the field be Craig Chaplin and then tipped in to the goal off the end of Shane’s hurley. With an extra point apiece added before the whistle, the half-time ended Tubber 0-05 to Broadford 1-07.

Picture
Broadford could not be stopped in the second-half and added a further 12 points ten coming from play with Tubber adding an additional four for all their hard efforts. Final score Tubber 0-09 Broadford 1-19.

Back at home in Broadford on Sunday evening, the Under 12’s hurlers played Bodyke in their Championship match. The match was a close run thing but Broadford triumphed in the end 3-08 to 2-08.

After the U-12’s match, Camogie was in the spotlight with the Division 3 playoff against Whitegate. A win for Broadford!  Broadford 4-13 to Whitegate 0-05.
