Congratulations to Quinntuite Brothers

19/10/2016

Congratulations to Broadford Minor Hurling Club players, and brothers, Shane and James Qinntuite who competed in the ITF Taekwon-Do World Cup in Budapest last weekend.

Some 58 countries from around the world sent 111 teams in all, made up of 1852 competitors.  This included 140 competitors from across Ireland including from, Clare, Dublin, the Midlands and Cork.  With such a large competition then, it is all the more impressive that the two lads from Broadford did so well in the competition.

Shane was in the -62kg category and brings home a bronze medal after beating competitors from Norway, Ukraine, Spain and was only finally beaten by Poland in the semi-final.  James was in the -45kg category and won gold in the final against Uzbekistan after already beating Italy, England, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.

Congratulations to both the lads – well done!

Despite heavy rain delaying the second day's play by two weeks, the Broadford Hurling Club Golf Classic was played over Friday 23rd September and Saturday 8th October.

Some 25 teams took part over the two days to make the event a success, play some great golf and help support Broadford Hurling Club.

The final placings were as follows:

The event would not have been possible without the kind and generous support of its many sponsors and to all of them the club extends its sincerest thanks.  We will post up the names of all the sponsors separately in full acknowledgement.

Thank you to all the participants and congratulations to the winners.

Countdown to Intermediate Hurling Final

13/10/2016

The countdown has begun and we are now just days away from the big event - the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship Final.

After the wins against Scariff in the quarter-final and Tubber in the semi-final, Broadford will now face St. Joseph's Doora Barefield in the final.

Tubber beat St. Joseph's in the group stages by 8 points and Broadford beat Tubber in the semi-final by 2 goals and a point. The pundits are giving Broadford the edge but there is no room for complacency and  the team will have been training hard knowing that the stakes are high and St. Joseph's Doora Barefield will be in to win and will throw everything they have at Broadford.

The whole club and the entire parish is behind the team  every step of the way. So wish the lads luck when you see them and be there on the day to spur them on; the way only Broadford knows how.  Áth Leathan Abú!

The match takes place in Cusack Park on Saturday with throw-in at 4.30pm.

Clare Junior A Champions 2016 - Pictures thanks to Joanne Moloney
Broadford Camogie and Hurling supporters have much to celebrate after a great weekend of action.

Success started on Saturday when Broadford met Tulla in the Camogie Junior A final which took place in Sixmilebridge.  Broadford put in a strong performance and were up 4-02 to 1-03 at half time and then went on to win 4-6 to 3-05. Great result!

Then on Sunday morning the Under 13C hurlers won their shield final against Smith O'Brien's - well done boys!

Completing the weekend's hat-trick, the intermediate hurlers met Tubber on Sunday afternoon in the Intermediate Championship semi-final which took place in Cusack Park, Ennis. Broadford went on to win 4-14 to 2-15 so now have the final to look forward to later in the month which will be against St. Joseph's Doora/Barefield.

Well done to all the players, trainers, management, and everyone involved in the weekend's action.
