Under 21 Win for Broadford in Ogonnelloe

29/2/2016

Picture
Broadford played Bodyke on Sunday 28th February in their opening match of the Under 21 Championship. The match was played in Ogonnelloe in bright conditions, with the watery spring sunshine a welcome change to recent weekend weather.

Bodyke took the first point in a minute-and-a-half of play and a second three minutes later with Broadford managing only two wides in between. However, Shane Keniry opened the account for Broadford with a welcome goal after a cross from Eoaghan Mason on the far side of the pitch, behind 13m line, and sent in for Damien who had to out manoeuvre Bodyke’s number 4 in front of the goal to take the shot and send the ball to the back of the net.  Two further points from play for Broadford with a point from a free for Bodyke and Broadford had a two point lead (1-02 to 0-03).

Bodyke pushed play back to the Broadford end on a number of occasions to pile on the pressure and despite being held back by spirited defensive actions from the likes of Matthew Troy, Eoin Donnellan and Sean Phelan, Bodyke managed to deliver their only goal of the match. With another point minutes later they were back in front with a two point advantage over Broadford.

Broadford mounted a comeback and with points from play from Darren Chaplin, Damien Keniry, Stiofain McMahon , Diarmuid Moloney, and a free from Sean Phelan. With just two further points from play for Bodyke the half time score was left at 1-07 to 1-06 to give Broadford back the lead of one solitary but hard earned point.

Broadford came back on to the field for the second half in fighting form and sent three over the bar in the first eight minutes, one from play and one from a free from Darren Chaplin and another from play from Diarmuid O’Brien (1-10 to 1-06).

Broadford’s fortunes looked like they might be put on the back-foot again though. Bodyke took one from a free and then 14 minutes in, play was centred directly in front of the Broadford goal. Bodyke’s number 14 tried to send the ball in to the goal whilst being challenged from behind by Jack Dillon with Goalie Jc McMahon in front both limiting 14’s manoeuvres. Jc knocked the ball back in to play to keep the goal at bay, and then continued to try and play the ball as 14 fell back to the ground. Broadford’s Eoin Donnellan and Sean Phelan came in to help with the defence of the net as Bodyke’s number 5 came in for the attack. The ball remained in play dangerously around the base and on the wrong side of the left post. The resulting play afforded Bodyke a penalty opportunity and the chance to bring the scores level again. Jc held his nerve and saved the penalty, which was sent low and to JC’s right, to prevent what could have been a turning point in the game.

A free from Darren Chaplin though marked the start of another scoring spree for Broadford. In the 17th minute Broadford’s Paul Moloney scored an opportunistic goal after the Bodyke goalie challenged Paul for possession of the ball out on the fringes of the square. As the goalie slipped to a fall, the ball crept back towards the goal and Paul swept in to roll the ball across the ground and in to the wide open goal. (2-11 to 1-07).

To seal the win, Broadford took another six points with just one more coming back from Bodyke. Shane Taylor took the first three, the first from a free. Points from play each for Stiofain McMahon and Michael Hogan and the last score of the game going to Darren Chaplin taking a free in the 26th minute.  Final score 2-17 to 1-08.

A tough game to call at the end of the first half with Broadford making it their own in the second. With Bodyke continuing to challenge throughout, making the match an entertaining start to the season.

Broadford's New Stand Takes Shape

11/2/2016

Picture
In just a few weeks, Broadford Hurling Club’s new stand has really started to take shape.  The all-important foundations were set deep in to the ground and the concrete walls of the stand are complete.  This is all thanks to the fundraising of the club’s members, friends and wider community.

The site might seem quiet for the next few weeks but that’s not because work has stopped.  At this time the focus is off-site, getting the steelwork for the roof and its supporting structure ready.  This will rise about eight feet from the top of the concrete walls to give plenty of headroom  and visibility for the spectators.

The space between the top of the concrete wall and the roof will be filled with glass to provide shelter from the wind and rain. (Not that that will be necessary this year. Were in for a scorcher!)

Picture
The picture above shows the open space inside the stand that needs to be filled and stepped down from the back to front to provide the terrace for the rows of seats.

The gap in the back wall is where the staircase will rise behind the stand from the ground and up to the back of the seating area.  Spectators will access the stand from this staircase and then walk down though the seating area as far as the front row.

Picture
As well as entering the stand from behind, visitors will also be able to access the clubhouse directly.  There will be full access to the clubhouse for wheelchairs and for those who are less mobile.

Likewise, there will also be access to the stand from the front for those that cannot use the stairs for the same reasons.
Picture
The stand is going to make a big difference for everyone and afford everyone a fine view of Broadford hurling and camogie matches for years to come.

Hopefully these few pictures have helped to provide some insights in to how your kind donations are helping to deliver this fantastic development for the club.

If you have not yet sponsored a seat, but think that this is something you would like to do, then please contact Pat Donnellan on 087 350 6359 or email broadfordgaa@yahoo.ie for further information.

Thank you!

Broadford Camogie Club Regisration for 2016

10/2/2016

Picture
Registration for Broadford Camogie Club will take place on Wednesday 2nd March, in the Clubhouse, from 17:45 to 18:45.

The club must have all 2015 (last year’s) playing members registered by the 15th March, without exception. Any 2015 player not registered with Broadford by the 15th will miss the deadline for registration with the County Board and, consequently, will not be able to play this year. Unfortunately there can be no exceptions as this is governed by the County Board, not Broadford Camogie Club.

New players not registered last year should also register by the 15th March in order to avoid the County Registration Charge of €30 which is payable for registration of new players after the  County Board deadline date.

We are requesting everyone registering this year to please download a copy of the club’s registration form and bring the completed form along to the registration evening. This is so that we can get through registration as quickly and efficiently as possible. Two form options are available:
  • A MS Word document that will allow you to complete the form on-line before printing. When editing the document you will need to enable macros and navigate the form using your mouse or arrow keys.
  • A PDF file that you can print and then fill in manually.
The registration form options can be found at the bottom of this page.

If you cannot print off the form before registration there will still be  forms available in the clubhouse for you to complete on the night.

Membership fees are as follows:
  • €30 for players under 8
  • €50 for players 9 and over
  • €100 maximum for family with more than 2 players
  • €10 for non-players - entitles this member to vote at AGM

Full details can be found in the letter that will be sent to all members and can also be downloaded below.

Thanks you for your support and looking forward to a great year ahead.
