The first weekend in April was a weekend of firsts for Broadford Hurling Club. On Saturday, the Broadford Junior A team played their first match in the Junior A league, their first competition match since being promoted after winning the B Championship last year and the first match in front of Broadford’s new stand..
Before the match, a minutes silence was held for the late Sean Carroll who died last week.
Both teams in this match experienced more than their fair share of wides in the first half but the game still provided plenty of goal and point scoring action for the spectators in the new stand. The game ended with a victory for Broadford 3-20 to 1-12.

On Sunday at just after noon, and whilst the annual Broadford 10k+1 fun run was under way, another first for Broadford was taking place. This time as the club fielded a third team for the first time in its history, playing on this occasion in the first match of the Junior B League against Clonbony. The West Clare team gave the Broadford side something to think about in the first half, leaving them nine points behind (0-04 to 3-04) by 24-minutes. However, a spurt in the last few minutes with a goal and a point put Broadford back in the game. The second half was a much stronger for Broadford who went on to steal a final victory 3-13 to 5-05.
Then on Sunday evening the Broadford U14 team beat Cratloe on a scoreline of 3-9 to 2-0 in the first round of the U14C Championship.
