Convincing win for Broadford Camogie Under 14's

Fielding a reduced side the Banner met Broadford in the Under 14 C play-off in Broadford on Monday evening. Broadford got off to a cracking start. After several minutes of attack in front of the Banner goal line, Broadford’s Kathy O’Farrell scored the first goal. This was closely followed by a second goal set up by a cross from Molly Marsh and then sent over the line by Elsa Vaughan.  Banner’s number 12 went on a fine solo run between the 65m and Broadford’s 20m line only to be successfully challenged by Broadord’s defence. A point from Alexandra Troy took Broadford’s score to 2-01 in the first 11 minutes but a fine goal from the Banner soon afterwards showed Broadford they still had to work hard to keep ahead. Two further goal attempts from Emma Cooper and Emma Spaight were successfully seen off by some great defensive play from the Banner. However, a goal from Kathy O’Farrell and further goal from Alexandra sent straight to the back of the net from a free plus another three points from Alexandra propelled Broadford’s lead to leave the score at halftime 4-04 to 1-0.

The second half started well again for Broadford with two points from Kathy O’Farrell but Banner’s number 12 scored a superb and well deserved goal after a long solo run from around their own 45m line all the way down to the Broadford square.  Banner took a free that was directed straight towards the net but was saved by Nicole O’Keeffe and for a while Banner continued to put pressure on Broadford’s defence but was unable to make the advances needed. Broadford again moved the game up to Banner’s goal end where Banner’s number 2 achieved a superb block in front of the goal from a powerful shot from Alexandra Troy. Banner’s number 12 and 3 again gave valiant long solo runs but were unable to convert their efforts in to scores.  Further goals from Kathy, Alexandra and Susan O’Shea, and the last point from Alexandra Troy, left the final score at 7-05 to 2-0.

Broadford played exceptionally well but the reduced Banner side helped to deliver a significant win for Broadford.
