Both teams played for superiority in the first half but seemed well matched for each other, faulting the others attempt to break ahead by any significant stride. Broadford had a number of opportunities in front of the Shanballymore goal but the slippery grass and quick defensive actions of the Cork side conspired to deny Broadford ‘s goal attempts.
The first half ended with Broadford two points ahead and all to play for. Half-time score 0-08 to 0-010.
The second half did not fare so well for Broadford as Shanballymore came back for the second half with a greater presence but never the less only slowly managed to increase their score to 0-16 with just two points in response from Broadford, who were thwarted by a number of wides due to a deceptive cross breeze barely noticeable on the ground.
Broadford fought back hard but the Shanballymore defence were at times on top of Broadford to limit any potential gains. In the dying few minutes of the game, where the right combination of luck and Broadford skill and determination might yet have played out for a different result, Shanballymore sent a crushing delivery to the middle of the net from just in front of the left goal post and leaving no prospect of a block and no doubt of the final result. Final score 1-16 to 0-12.
The Junior B team did the club tremendously proud getting to this competition and the result can’t take away from that. Well done lads on a great year!
