Weekend of Success for Broadford Families

19/8/2019

Whilst much attention and support was levied on Broadford's club hurlers and caomogie players this weekend, several Broadford families were reveling in success elsewhere in the country, and indeed further afield in Poland.
Mens U18's Rugby Sevens European Championship in Gdansk
Jack Ward Murphy wore the green jersey with pride playing for Ireland's U18's rugby squad. With victories against Luxembourg and Russia, both games finishing 43-0, and also against Germany (15-5) and France (24-14), and just one loss against Georgia (7-31), the team made it to the final against Spain. Despite trailing 7-12 at the end of the first half, the team turned the game around in the second half to emerge champions with a final score of 26-12.

Congratulations to Jack, the full team and the Ward-Murphy family.

Four children from Broadford competed in Drogheda at the 2019 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Mark McNamara played u12 piano accompaniment and while he was not placed, he played amazingly as expected as he is currently the current Munster champion in this category.

Saidhbhe O’Sullivan played flute in u15 Tulóg ceili band who came 1st at 12-15 ceili band competition - Ciara O’Connell, playing fiddle Naoise O’Sullivan, playing fiddle and banjo in the Tulóg U18 group who also came 1st in 15-18 group competition.

Such talent, well done all.

Back to hurling and James Tuite played with the U16's Clare squad in Limerick on Saturday 17th August in the Sean O'Connor Memorial Cup . A win against Kildare put the team through to the final against Limerick.  Win for Clare!

Well done to James and all the team and mentors.
